Timer Used

For hot water radiators, is it cheaper to keep the house at a constant heat or use a timer?
I have heard that it uses less oil to keep the house at a constant temperature even when one is not home. Or is it cheaper to use a timer to heat the house only when home?
If these are radiators hooked to your central heating system, get a programmable thermostat and you can save 10% to 15% on gallons of oil in heating. If it is a space heater with no thermostat, then a timer would be the way to go.
